ECG or Electrocardiogram is a totally painless
procedure that measures heart rate, rhythm and also checks for
abnormalities. We recommend that your healthy pet have an ECG at 7
years of age and older. If your pet is at risk for heart disease, an ECG
should be done more regularly.

An ECG machine consists of a
normal PC with an analyzer and printer. Our system is called
VetScan. The pet is not under anesthetic and is laid on it's right
side. Small clips attached to the analyzer are put on the elbows and
knees of the patient. The analyzer starts running a strip on the
screen. After about one minute, we unhook the clips, set the
parameters of the strip and print out a report. This report gives us
all the statistics, diagnosis and prognosis. The doctor then
evaluates and sets up a protocol for treatment. |
