Congratulations on adopting your new kitten!

At the Pahle Clinic we will do our best to ensure that your kitten will have a long and happy life with your family.

Required Vaccines and Tests:

1.         Feline combination vaccine, which protects against the following diseases:

  • Panleukopenia (distemper), which causes a potentially fatal vomiting and diarrhea,

  • Rhinotracheitis, which causes an upper respiratory tract infection,

  • Calicivirus, another upper respiratory tract infection, and

  • Leukemia, which causes suppression of the immune system and leukemia (cancer).

2.         Rabies vaccine.  Rabies is a 100% fatal disease that can be transmitted to people.

3.         Blood test for feline leukemia.  This 5-minute test checks for exposure to the leukemia virus; if the test is negative, we can then vaccinate your kitten against leukemia.

4.         Fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites.

5.         Oral de-wormer to control roundworms, which are a public health risk.

Home Care of Your Kitten:

We recommend feeding a high-quality dry kitten food; this can be fed free choice or as meals.  Fresh water and a litter box should be available at all times.  Many cats prefer the newer scoopable kitty litters, as these are softer on the paws.  For multiple-cat households, have one litter box per cat, plus one extra.  We recommend that all cats be kept indoors.  The life span of an indoor cat is much longer than that of outdoor cats who face the hazards of cars, poisons, and fights with other animals.
